Woodland Café (1937)

WALT DISNEY STUDIO
Woodland Café (1937)
original production animation drawing
red, green and black pencil on untrimmed animation sheet, image size: 4.75" x 8.75"
This outstanding final animation drawing of two dancing insect couples was created by a Disney Studio animator in production of the animated Silly Symphony, and a cel painting was made directly from it. Wilfred Jackson directed this cartoon of insects out for an evening of music, dancing and entertainment at the insect nightclub. While dancing to the lively music of the grasshopper orchestra, led by a bandleader styled after Cab Calloway, the male bugs bump their backsides, then turn to go eye-to-eye and nose-to-nose. The animator wrote the studio designation “132” at lower right to indicate this original's place in the scene.
